German photographer Michael Schmidt was born in Berlin in 1945. Self taught, Schmidt is best known for his black and white portrayal of the people of Berlin and concrete buildings and landscapes. Schmidt often sought out mid day lighting, preferring his images to be flat, often depicting no true blacks or whites and without shadow.
‘Whatever Schmidt does or however he does it, his often (seemingly) unassuming photographs capture the mood in ways that are hard to describe’ JM Colberg. Concientious June 172011.
